Wood or cement floor, which one to choose for your shed ?

You are asking yourself which flooring is better for your shed ? Should we choose wood or cement ? This is the question that many people ask themselves when they come to purchase a shed. Truth is there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

Cement Floor

A cement floor for your shed is the best choice without a doubt. Yes, it is an expensive option, but, if your budget allows it, know that the advantages are well worth the cost.

Why ? Because cement is solid, very solid. No matter where you install your shed, the installation will be permanent. Yes, the project will take longer to finish, but if you want a durable foundation, we strongly suggest a cement floor. Its strength makes it ideal for most soils and sloping properties. In addition, the risk of your shed moving due to freezing and thawing is almost zero.

You have heavy equipment to store away ? Cement is the best way to go. Also, if you choose to install your pool filter in your shed, cement is the perfect choice because it is resistant to water and mould.

Finally, with cement, you will never have an issue with raccoons or any other animal that wishes to live under your shed.

The advantages of cement:

  • Provides a permanent base.
  • Resistant to temperature change.
  • Resistant to freezing and thawing.
  • Ideal for mostly all properties.
  • Facilitates the storage of heavy equipment.

The disadvantages of cement:

  • The project will take longer.
  • More expensive.
  • Requires floor construction.
  • Needs to be dug below the frost line of the ground.
  • Can’t be moved.

Wood floor

And if you decide to choose a wood floor ? Since it is included in the price of your shed, this choice is less expensive than the cement. The wood floor is installed on cement blocks to allow the air to circulate underneath (the wood cannot be placed directly on the ground).

It is perfect if your ground is solid and straight. A wood floor makes it easier to move your shed if need be. However, this mobility makes it vulnerable during periods of freezing and thawing and the instability of the soil. Know that our warranty for the authentic series includes a 2-year protection against ground movement.

The advantages of wood:

  • Easy project.
  • Less expensive.
  • Wood floor is included in the price.
  • Ideal for properties that are sturdy and level.
  • Easy to move.

Disadvantages of wood:

  • Fragile to the ground movement during freezing and thawing.
  • Might sink down if the ground is not well drained.
  • It might need to be reinforced if you are storing heavy equipment.
